MARKET SNAPSHOTS * The rupee eased against the dollar on Monday amid higher demand for the U.S. currency from oil importers. The rupee <PKR=> closed at 84.45/50 to the dollar compared with Friday's close of 84.30/35. * Pakistani stocks ended 2.3 percent down to a near two-month low on Monday because of falling international oil prices and in line with a fall in world markets over troubles in the euro zone. The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> fell 2.32 percent, or 237.95 points, to 10,033.76 on turnover of 73.62 million shares. [.KA] * The net inflow of foreign portfolio investment in the stock market was $476,165 on Monday. [http://www.nccpl.com.pk/fipi-new/index.php] * U.S. stocks staged a comeback in late trading on Monday as bargain hunters snapped up beaten-down shares, setting aside concerns that efforts to tackle the euro-zone debt crisis could stifle the global economy. The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> edged up 5.67 points, or 0.05 percent, to end at 10,625.83. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> added 1.26 points, or 0.11 percent, to 1,136.94. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> rose 7.38 points, or 0.31 percent, to close at 2,354.23. [.N] * Oil rose above $70 a barrel on Tuesday in a cautious rebound after hitting a five-month low the previous day on concerns about the health of the global economy. U.S. crude for June delivery <CLc1> rose 57 cents to $70.65 at 0237 GMT, after settling down $1.53 at a five-month low of $70.08 a day earlier. London Brent crude <LCOc1> for July rose 71 cents to $75.81 a barrel. [O/R] * Gold edged up on Tuesday but held around $20 below a lifetime high struck last week, while another increase in holdings in the world's largest gold-backed ETF showed investors were still faithful to the metal. Bullion hit a record of $1,248.95 on Friday on fears euro zone austerity measures could trigger a downturn in the region.
