Vietnam, Australia to form stronger defense ties

CANBERRA, Australia - Australia and Vietnam are vowing to form stronger defense and security ties while working together to combat terrorism and people smuggling.
ADVERTISEMENT
The two governments signed an agreement Monday during an official visit to Australia by Communist Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.
A joint statement said the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Partnership will involve intelligence sharing and cooperation between police forces and security officials.
A Joint Transnational Crime Center will be set up in Ho Chi Minh City.
