Staten Island, NY, United States (AHN) - A 47-year-old mother from Staten Island has sued a plastic surgeon for $5 million in damages for allegedly causing her to have "four breasts" after a flawed breast augmentation procedure in 2003.
Maria Alaimo's lawsuit said Dr. Keith Berman failed to resize her breasts to 36 C and instead resulted in "double-bubble" deformities that caused her "pain, disability, loss of self-esteem, humiliation, embarrassment and a divorce.
On Monday's trial of the case at the state Supreme Court, Alaimo's lawyer., Michael J. Kuharski, told jurors his client essentially has four breasts due to the operation.
Berman's Manhattan attorney, Jerry Giardina, told jurors that people have different response to plastic surgery.
A second defendant in the lawsuit is the Internet services My Choice Medical Inc., which referred her to Berman in 2003.
Alaimo claimed her deformed breasts forced her to not undress before her husband leading to their divorce in 2004.
