Manning completed 24-of-37 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown to power host Indianapolis past Tennessee 27-17, the Colts tying the 2006-2008 New England Patriots for the longest in-season victory runs in league history. WASHINGTON (AFP) - – Drew Brees threw for two touchdowns, the last to equalize with just 79 seconds to play, and unbeaten New Orleans edged Washington 33-30 in over-time in a National Football League thriller. The Saints joined fellow unbeaten Indianapolis at 12-0, the first time in gridiron history two clubs have stayed perfect so deep into a season. Only the 1972 Miami Dolphins and 2007 New England Patriots have had unbeaten seasons. Brees completed 35-of-49 passes for 419 yards and Garrett Hartley kicked an 18-yard field goal 6:29 into over-time to give New Orleans the victory, the Saints scoring on their first possession in the sudden-death extra period. "They had us on our heels. They had us off balance," Saints coach Sean Payton said. "We were fortunate to hang in there. We almost didn't get it but we're fortunate we did." The Saints clinched the NFC South division title and a playoff berth with the victory, but barely clung to their unbeaten status against a struggling Redskins squad that fell to 3-9. "I definitely believe in destiny," Brees said. "We've been on the other side of this deal too many times. Maybe it's our time, that we start catching some of the breaks and be the team that wins them like this in the end. "If we continue to do things the right way, good things will happen." Indianapolis remained unbeaten with a 27-17 victory over visiting Tennessee while the NFL's only third-best club, Minnesota, suffered a second loss in 12 games, falling at Arizona 30-17. New Orleans could complete a perfect season by finishing with victories over Atlanta, Dallas, Carolina and Tampa Bay. But the bid for an unbeaten run is less important than reaching the Super Bowl for the first time in team history. "Everyone here would love to go 16-0 but we have to focus on one week at a time," Saints running back Reggie Bush said. "We have courage and character. It's a strong-minded team. We always think we're going to win." Washington's Shaun Suisham was wide right with a late 23-yard field goal attempt and Brees answered with an 80-yard drive in just 33 seconds, hitting Robert Meachem with a 53-yard touchdown pass to rescue the Saints. "There was a little doubt because it got toward the end of the game and they got close enough for that field goal," Bush said. "We had to get the ball back. He missed that field goal and the rest of was history." The Saints are an inspiration to a city still recovering from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. "They have had a lot of bad things happen but I'm glad I'm part of a team that can help inspire them," Meachem said. "It means the world to the city." The Saints, coming off an emotional Monday night victory over New England, nearly stumbled against the same team that allowed winless Detroit a victory to snap the second-longest losing streak in NFL history at 19 games. "There's a lot we can look at to correct," Payton said. Peyton Manning completed 24-of-37 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown to power host Indianapolis past Tennessee, the Colts tying the 2006-2008 New England Patriots for the longest regular-season victory streak at 21 games. "When you have had a 6-10 season, you dont take it for granted," Manning said. "We have to take it one week at a time." The Colts, who can seize sole possession of the regular-season win streak mark with a home victory over Denver next week, also set an NFL record with a seventh consecutive season with 12 or more triumphs. Another record came at Arizona, where Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre played in is 283rd game in a row, breaking the NFL's all-time consecutive games played mark. The 40-year-old superstar, who leads the NFL in most all-time passing categories, surpassed the former mark he shared with former Vikings defensive end Jim Marshall. Favre has not missed a game since 1992. Michael Vick ran five yards for a touchdown and threw a five-yard touchdown pass for Philadelphia in a 34-7 romp at Atlanta, the place where Vick was a star until a dogfight conviction and prison sentence forced him out of the NFL. "I will never forget this day," Vick said. "This is one moment I'm going to savor forever." In other games, Oakland edged Pittsburgh 27-24, Chicago beat St. Louis 17-9, Jacksonville downed Houston 23-18, Denver ripped Kansas City 44-13, Miami edged New England 22-21, Cincinnati defeated Detroit 23-13, Carolina dumped Tampa Bay 16-6, San Diego beat Cleveland 30-23, Seattle outlasted San Francisco 20-17 and the New York Giants beat Dallas 31-24.
