SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea fired a short-range missile into waters off its west coast last week in what was likely a test of modifications to its arsenal, South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted an intelligence source as saying on Wednesday.
The launch last week coincided with the North's threat to mount an all-out offensive against the South after it rejected South Korean President Lee Myung-bak's invitation for North Korean leader Kim Jong-il to visit Seoul next year.
"North Korea fired a short range KN-06 missile mid-last week off the west coast in North Phyongan province," Yonhap quoted the source as saying.
"The launch was intended to test modifications to short-range missiles," the source was quoted as saying, adding it appeared unrelated to the North's recent threats.
