Small iPhone developer Tapulous sees big success
SAN FRANCISCO - IPhone app developer Tapulous says its sales have approached $1 million a month, providing fresh evidence of the growing success of start-ups designing programs for Apple Inc's <AAPL.O> mobile device. Tapulous -- with a mere 20 employees -- said its "Tap Tap Revenge" game series has now been installed more than 20 million times, with more than 600 million total games played.
Hynix can spend $2 billion capex in 2010
SEOUL <004940.KS> said in a statement that Hynix should be able to fund the estimated investment and to repay about 1 trillion won in debt with its own cash, without resorting to outside financial support.
RIM outshines Palm but fails to dispel all doubts
OTTAWA - BlackBerry maker Research In Motion <RIM.TO> <RIMM.O> may have zipped past expectations for its quarterly results and forecast, but it hasn't dispelled all doubts about its staying power to lead the race. By contrast, Palm Inc <PALM.O> reported disappointing results on Thursday on weaker consumer demand, and analysts said it looks likely to focus on boosting sales rather than profit in the near term.
Trade court rules for Kodak in patent fight
WASHINGTON - Eastman Kodak Co <EK.N> has won a preliminary fight with Samsung Electronics <005930.KS>, which the camera giant had accused of infringing its digital camera patents. An International Trade Commission judge ruled after an administrative proceeding that Samsung had infringed two Kodak patents, the ITC said on Friday.
Twitter hacked, attacker claims Iran link
BOSTON/WASHINGTON - A computer hacker briefly hijacked Twitter.com on Thursday, redirecting users to a website and claiming to represent a group calling itself the Iranian Cyber Army. Twitter, which in June became a key communication channel for Iranian protesters disputing the country's election results, said it was disrupted for a little more than an hour.

Google in talks to buy review site Yelp: reports
SAN FRANCISCO - Google Inc is in talks to buy Yelp Inc, the popular website for reviews of local businesses, in a deal that could help the Internet search leader tap a lucrative local ads market, media reports say. Google may pay more than $500 million for Yelp, according to reports confirmed to Reuters by a person familiar with the situation. It came as the Web giant embarked on an acquisition spree that has netted at least five companies since August.
Verizon Wireless says early termination fees fair
WASHINGTON - Verizon Wireless on Friday defended its fee hikes on early cancellations of phone contracts, citing declining prices customers pay for handsets in a letter to regulators. Earlier this month the Federal Communications Commission launched an inquiry into why the company doubled fees to $350 for ending contracts linked to some smartphones, which are often offered to customers at a reduced or no cost if a contract is signed.
Amazon's Kindle reader breaks monthly sales record
LOS ANGELES - U.S. Internet retailer Amazon.com Inc <AMZN.O> said on Thursday that its Kindle electronic book reader posted its best sales yet in the month of December, as the battle for the digital reader market heats up. Without giving figures or comparisons and barely halfway through the month, the online retailer said that the Kindle was the most wanted product across the company during the holiday gift season of December.
Sony's Stringer says e-reader to stay a book device
NEW YORK - The way Howard Stringer sees it, Sony's digital e-readers should focus on the printed word and making reading "comfortable," even though the consumer electronics giant could turn it into a multimedia machine. Stringer, Chief Executive of Japan's Sony Corp <6758.T>, admits there is a lot of "energy" behind Amazon.com's Kindle, which is seen as the leader in a burgeoning market for portable reading devices.
