He’s been chosen to perform the exit song for Season 10, which is set to play over the weekly farewell to this year’s hopefuls. Cook’s cover of the Simple Minds classic “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” was recorded in February and was chosen by “Idol” executive producer Simon Fuller as this season’s official swan song. Cook’s cover of the 1985 hit, best known as the theme to the John Hughes classic “The Breakfast Club,” is set to hit iTunes and other digital outlets on March 8th. Fans who pre-order Cook’s upcoming second album on his official website can already hear the song in its entirety. Cook’s album, produced by Matt Serletic (Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul), is set to hit stores in May. We’re interested in seeing what he does with one of our favorite 80’s songs, considering he so successfully turned Lionel Richie’s “Hello” and Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” into brooding rockers.
