Wed Jul 7, 2010 10:02pm EDT
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday he was prepared to discuss "right away" the future of Jewish settlements if Palestinians entered direct peace talks with Israel.
Asked on CNN's "Larry King Live" if he would extend beyond September a 10-month moratorium on housing starts in settlements in the occupied West Bank, Netanyahu said it was time for the Palestinians to drop preconditions for face-to-face talks.
"Let's just get into the talks and one of the things we'll discuss right away is this issue of settlements and that's what I propose doing," he said.
Netanyahu was interviewed a day after a fence-mending meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House, where the Israeli leader repeated a call for a restart of peace negotiations with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Direct talks on Palestinian statehood have been suspended since late 2008. Obama's Middle East mediator, George Mitchell, has been shuttling between Netanyahu and Abbas in so-called proximity talks.
The Palestinians insist on keeping Israel at arm's length until it makes certain things clear -- namely, what size and shape of Palestinian state is Netanyahu prepared to consider, and will its Jordan Valley be free of Israeli troops?
Earlier on Wednesday, Netanyahu said on ABC television's "Good Morning America" that Israel was prepared to take additional steps to ease Palestinian movement in the West Bank to coax Abbas into direct peace talks.
"The point is, we are prepared to do them. But what we want to see finally is one thing: We want President Abbas to grasp my hand ... to shake it, sit down and negotiate a final settlement of peace between Israel and the Palestinians," he said.

Sure, the settlements in the West Bank are totally tied in to Israel infrastructure, roads, electricity, water sewage.
They know what they are doing and will build in tightly coupled swaths of land so the Palestinians CAN’T get it back.
According to the Israeli newspaper, the Jerusalem housing committee is planning to build another 50,000 Jewish homes in occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem to join the hundreds of thousands already there or in progress. The international community does not recognize Israeli sovereignty over east Jerusalem.
This is nothing but a planned robbery.

How can a prime minister who won’t even take the ludicrously simple measure of freezing the construction of illegal settlements -surrendering to his anti-peace far-right zealots- dare to feign that he is seeking anything else than a misleading posture of goodwill in another try to appease and deceive the international community?

Prime Minister Netanyahu needs to address the American public. Relate his ideas on Israel and the Palestinian problem Israel’s faces. He needs to remind Christian America that Israel is here to say and that Jerusalem will remain it’s undivided capital and that “East Jerusalem Is Not For Sale!” PM Netanyahu is a very enlightened man, a leader and he can convince Americans that having the West Bank full of Hamas supporters is not in Israel nor America’s best interest.
He not only faces the problem of the Palestinian question but Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Iran.
He needs to tell the American People “Do you really want another North Korea in the Middle East controlling the flow of oil and the shipping lanes?” That is exactly what Iran will be when it acquires nukes!
May God bless PM Netanyahu and I hope that every Christian American prays for him and for Israel.

Everyone these days know the truth about the Israeli Lie, Israel is not a democratic state. Also there is no strategic benefit for the USA to keep defending them. They are a liability for the US and create many challenges and mishapes for america.

Abbas does not speak for nor represent the full Palestinian people.
Why is everyone pushing Israel to negotiate with him?
Hamas will not accept anything he agrees to. Nor will the Islamic Jihad or other militant groups.
First the Palestinians need to reconcile into one group and then they will have someone that speaks for them.
