Nigeria cuts oil exports
AP - Friday, October 31
ABUJA, Nigeria - Nigeria is reducing its crude oil export volume by 5 percent in line with new quotas announced by OPEC, the state oil company said Thursday.
A statement by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation said that November and December exports would be reduced and that other individual cargoes had also been cancelled for those months. No further details were given.
The 13-member Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries that includes Nigeria announced last week that it will slash oil production by 1.5 million barrels to stem the dramatic collapse in oil prices.
Nigeria _ which boasts Africa's largest oil industry _ has been been hard hit by plummeting crude prices which have forced a dramatic downward revision of the country's 2009 budget.
