ShareThis March 7, 2010 9:57 p.m. EST Topics: festive event, television, arts, culture and entertainment, movies, United States Andy Bockelman - Celebrity News Service Reporter Los Angles, CA, United States (CNS) - Whenever the theme from "The Breakfast Club" plays, no one will forget about John Hughes. But those who worked closest with him ensured that he receive a proper send-off. Members of the 1980s group the Brat Pack paid homage to late writer/director Hughes in a tribute at the 82nd annual Academy Awards. Hughes, who died at the age of 59 in mid-2009, wrote and directed some of the best-loved films of the '80s and '90s. Actors Molly Ringwald and Matthew Broderick began the tribute by detailing for the Oscar audience how profound an effect Hughes had on their early careers, having directed them in their youths in "Sixteen Candles," "Pretty in Pink" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," respectively. Following their introduction played a series of clips of interviews with the filmmaker and his movies, including "Some Kind of Wonderful," "National Lampoon's Vacation," "Weird Science," "She's Having a Baby" and more. Ringwald and Broderick were joined by Brat Packers Jon Cryer, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy, as well as Macaulay Culkin, star of Hughes' "Home Alone." The group told of Hughes' touch with young actors and his talent in depicting the challenges of growing up through his movies. The tribute came on the heels of the Oscars for Best Original Song, won by Ryan Bingham and T Bone Burnett for "Crazy Heart" theme "The Weary Kind"; Best Original Screenplay, won by Mark Boal for the Iraq War drama "The Hurt Locker"; and Best Animated Feature, which went to Pete Docter for the Disney Pixar feature "Up," also a Best Picture contender.
