Miami Beach, FL, United States (AHN) - THUMP:::THUMP:::THUMP - It's that time of year again. The time where music lovers, DJs, record producers, and those who simply love to dance invade Miami. The Winter Music Conference (WMC) has descended on the Magic City.
Tuesday officially marks the 25th anniversary of the WMC. However, there have already been several warm up and kickoff parties. Most notably South Beach's newest hot spot, Bar 721 on Saturday night it held a line up that could have rivaled any of the larger parties during conference with several DJs and artists. Bar 721 is the location known for its “leave your attitude at the door” policy is the perfect spot to walk in and dance or just sit back in a comfortable setting and be serenaded. Bar 721 is also the site of the official afterparty for the 25th Annual International Dance Music Awards on Thursday.
However, on Sunday Dek23's CLICK weekly party was elevated a notch with four DJ's and several Billboard recording artists. Guests were also treated to Pepper Mashay serenading Miami uber-nightclub promoter Omar Gonzalez on his birthday. The Urban/Soul music, House music and Club/Dance singer-songwriter known for her song “Dive in the Pool” sung a heartfelt Happy Birthday to Gonzalez who's birthday party seemed like the perfect way to kick off a week of celebration for dance revelers.
One of the things about WMC is that many visitors who come to Miami don't realize that Miami has its own stable of truly talented world class DJs. They spin at the clubs that others go to big box stores to buy the prepackaged cds- which often times are recorded live sets at some of the city's hottest nightclubs.
DJs such as Cedric Gervais, Ivano Bellini, Artist Related's Miami Ski Team - made up of Andrew “Supersede” Beckwith and Nick Morrison who have huge followings and large sales on iTunes are playing all around the South Florida landscape.
The Artist Related's Haus of Air kicked conference's official start with a day long party at the Clevelander Hotel on Tuesday. The event is showcasing their stable of DJ's. As the sun begins setting on famed Ocean Drive the streets this evening. Art deco buildings with neon pastel lights will slowly hum to life as Supersede's music is heard by the pool's hotel and down the famous beach side corridor.
Cedric Gervais, a Miami dance music legend who spins regularly at Miami's biggest nightclubs well into Sunday morning...and day, is playing at South Beach's Mynt nightclub on Thursday. As with many artists WMC gives them a time to showoff and showcase their new material. Often times it's the first time for fans to hear the newest and latest live. Gervais is no exception, scheduled to perform with him on Thursday is singing sensation and “Dancing with the Stars” alum Mya. The two will be performing their latest single “Love is the Answer.”
Other venues like Nikki Beach are capitalizing on Miami's sun, beautiful weather and outdoor spaces to enjoy the music. On Thursday Nikki Beach is having one of their legendary day long parties on the sand where guests can see a whole stable of talented artists. Rather than fight the crowds, traffic, and deal with taxis -- which are in short supply the DJ's literally come to them. Juicy Beach with Robbie Riviera is one of those events and is far cheaper than ULTRA. Artists slated to perform include Oscar G, George Acosta, DJ Reza, Said Solano and many more at the day/night long event.
For the more festive set who want the experience of large outdoor venues there is the legendary ULTRA music fest on the banks of Biscayne Bay. The site of where numerous tents and stages dazzle music lovers with an array of lights, sounds, and beats all from the varied landscapes of electronic music and DJ's from around the world on both Friday and Saturday.
Winter Music Conference is undoubtedly a huge money maker for the city of Miami, but it is also an opportunity for music industry insiders to literally put their fingers on the pulse of what's hot in music and see first hand how the beats, technology, and lights touch their biggest and most devoted fans.
