New York, NY, United States (AHN) - Several major networks announced they will offer free episodes of some programs through Apple’s iPad, which is due out for sell this Saturday.
Networks are looking to exploit possible benefits, such as advertising revenue, from additional viewers the iPad will provide. It is widely expected the product will sell out on Saturday, with estimates of 4 million units being sold.
CBS Corp. plans to offer free episodes of shows, such as “Survivor,” according to a Bloomberg report. The network also plans to make other shows available on its website that the iPad can access though its web browser.
ABC, which is owned by Walt Disney Co, plans to launch a program that will let viewers watch episodes on the iPad.
General Electric’s NBC unit said it plans to update its website in order enable iPad owners to view content through the device.
However, Fox Network, owned by New Corp, does not have any immediate plans to offer content, planning instead to monitor the progress of the Apple product.
