Entertainment  |  Television  |  Media Speaking at the Milken Institute Global Conference in Beverly Hills, he said he has seen prototype conversions to 3-D of old episodes of "Star Trek" -- and that they did not "knock him out" or convince him there was a market for such shows. "Does the experience get good enough on television to work? I'm not sure it's going to be economically viable for the near future," the media executive said. Moonves' skepticism of 3-D conversions comes as TV manufacturers from Sony Corp to Samsung Electronics Co Ltd roll out 3-D TV sets. Hollywood studios are also eager to convert their blockbuster films to 3-D. But he believed sports events broadcast in 3-D will be "phenomenal." Chase Carey, Deputy Chairman of News Corp, told the same Milken audience said that 3-D will be a big part of future broadcasts of sports, movies and major events, but he too was skeptical of other forms of 3-D TV. News Corp owns the Fox network and cable outlet Fox News. "There's a question of if people will come home at 7 o'clock at night and put on a pair of glasses to watch the evening news," Carey said.
