Former MVP Sosa waiting for offers: report
AFP - 1 hour 30 minutes ago
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AFP) - - Former MVP Sammy Sosa has not ruled out a return to Major League Baseball next season, according to a report in the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario.
The 40-year-old last played in 2007 when he hit 21 homers and drove in 92 runs for the Texas Rangers.
"I still don't have an offer, and I shouldn't be (seeking) offers out there," Sosa said. "Any team who wants to sign me should have the initiative and make an offer."
Sosa, the National League MVP in 1998 and the only hitter to surpass 60 or more homers in a season on three occasions, said he is keeping fit.
"Those who saw me training know that I'm hitting the ball with the usual authority," said Sosa, who in May instructed his agent not to offer his services to any team during the 2008 season. "I just hope to get the chance to prove that I'm still a threat."
