US military: At least 18 die in Baghdad car bomb

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military says a bomb has killed at least 18 people and wounded 25 in a busy Baghdad square.
Initial Iraqi police reports said the blast Saturday at al-Zahra square in the northern Baghdad Shiite neighborhood of Kazimiyah was a mortar round.
But three Iraqi police officers later said it was a parked car bomb, apparently targeting a taxi stand.
U.S. Army Capt. Charles Calios says initial military reports show it was a car bomb.

BAGHDAD (AP) _ Police in Baghdad say a mortar round slammed into a bustling square in the capital, killing two civilians and wounding four.
The attack on al-Zahra square in the northern Baghdad Shiite neighborhood of Kazimiyah happened about noon on Saturday, a police officer said on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information.
Further details were not immediately available.
