Free New Year’s Eve concert planned at Singapore Flyer
Channel NewsAsia - Sunday, December 28
SINGAPORE: The Singapore Flyer observation wheel may be closed but New Year partying will still go on, at least for one of the tenants at the tourist attraction.
According to the observation wheel operator, the newest tenant "Love The World" is staging a free concert.
It is hoped the New Year’s Eve party will help draw in the crowds.
Business has been affected since the wheel’s closure.
The operator says it is coming up with proposals to help its tenants tide over the closure period.
The Singapore Flyer suspended operations after an incident on Tuesday stranded scores of people in mid—air for nearly seven hours.
A technical malfunction had started a small fire, triggering a power outage and grinding the wheel to a halt while 173 visitors were inside the Flyer’s enclosed cabins.
Some were rescued to the ground after they were winched down using ropes while others were able to walk out of the cabins after the Flyer resumed rotating.
Singapore Flyer is currently investigating the actual cause of the incident.
This process involves the wheel’s builder, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and the Police.
