Beijing Palace Museum curator visits Taiwan
AP - Monday, March 2
TAIPEI, Taiwan - The curator of the Beijing Palace Museum began a high-profile visit Sunday to arrange an exhibition of Chinese relics in Taiwan, the rivals' first joint cultural program for six decades.

The visits and exhibition plans are another sign of improving relations between China and Taiwan under the self-ruled island's new president.
Beijing museum curator Zheng Xinmiao told reporters he would discuss the loan of 29 Qing Dynasty relics to Taiwan's National Palace Museum for an exhibition this fall during his four-day visit.
The Chinese museum agreed to the exhibit and other cooperation programs last month when the head of Taiwan's National Palace Museum visited Beijing.
There have been no attempts to share cultural artifacts between the mainland and Taiwan since Chiang Kai-shek's forces moved 600,000 items of treasure from the Forbidden City in Beijing and took them to the island in the waning stages of the Chinese civil war _ which led to a split between the two sides _ in the late 1940s.
Those items are on display at Taiwan's National Palace Museum _ the largest public collection of Chinese art in the world.
Sixty years after the two sides split amid civil war, Beijing maintains Taiwan is Chinese territory, to be united by persuasion if possible, by force if necessary.
Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou began a campaign when he took office last May to ease decades of hostilities and promote reconciliation.
