District deputy police chief Harrith Kam Abdullah says the Pilatus PC-7 training aircraft came apart during a routine exercise at the main airport on northern Langkawi resort island.
Firefighting official Yaakob Hassan told the national news agency Bernama the pilots' remains were taken out of the wreckage after firefighters extinguished the blaze.
Harrith Kam says authorities are investigating the cause of Friday's accident.
