Government official Iqbal Khattak says the elders were captured in Ambar village in the Mohmand tribal region Monday. They had traveled there from the neighboring Bajur tribal region to ask militants to leave the area. Pakistani troops have been engaged in an offensive against Bajur militants since August. The fighting has spread to Mohmand. Meanwhile, police say suspected militants killed a Pakistani and an Afghan in the North Waziristan tribal region. Police official Akram Khan says the Afghan was shot while the Pakistani was hanged. The bodies were found Tuesday along with notes accusing the victims of being U.S. spies.
