Smucker Company announced Thursday fourth quarter earnings rose 28 percent as its peanut butter sales rebounded from last year’s recall. The producer of Jif peanut butter said fourth quarter earnings totaled $120.6 million or $1.01 a share, up from $94.3 million or 80 cents a share in the same period a year earlier. Revenue rose 1 percent in the quarter to $1.07 billion, while profit margins grew 2.8 percent to 40.2 percent. Fourth quarter results topped analyst estimates for earnings of 80 cents a share on revenue of $1 billion. Smucker also reported fiscal 2010results of $494.1 million or $4.15 a share, up 86 percent from $266 million or $3.11 a share. Fiscal 2010revenues jumped 23 percent to $4.6 billion. The results received a boost from the acquisition of the Folgers coffee brand, which the firm bought from Procter & Gamble last year. “We achieved another year of record sales while growing volume and profitability across our portfolio of iconic brands," commented Tim Smucker, Chairman of the Board and Co-Chief Executive Officer. "With the completion of our first full fiscal year including the coffee business, we have just begun to realize the potential of our new, larger company.” Looking forward, Smucker’s expects fiscal 2011 earnings of $4.50 to $4.60 a share, excluding one-time restructuring costs. Analysts are estimating 2011 earnings in a range of $4.42 to $4.75 a share.
