Bollywood reaches deal with cinemas, ends boycott
AFP - Saturday, June 6
MUMBAI, India (AFP) - - Bollywood film producers have called off a two-month boycott of multiplex cinemas after resolving a row over revenue sharing that prevented the release of new movies in the multi-screen theatres.

An agreement was reached late Thursday, although both sides declined to give details.
"Yes, the strike is over. New films will be releasing in theatres from next week," Mukesh Bhatt, spokesman for United Producers Guild told AFP.
The producers had withheld new releases in multiplex cinemas, to push their demand for a 50:50 revenue share from the owners, who had enjoyed a 60-40 split.
Industry sources said the multiplex owners had agreed to a straight half-and-half split for the first week of release, with the ratio changing for weeks two and three.
The dispute came as the Indian film industry struggles with the effects of the global economic slowdown and dwindling audiences.
