AVA lifts suspension on import of China milk products
Channel NewsAsia - 1 hour 19 minutes ago
SINGAPORE : Singapore’s Agri—Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) has lifted the suspension on the import of milk and milk products from China.
AVA says it is satisfied with the control measures in place to ensure that milk and milk products from China are not contaminated with melamine.
Products produced by approved establishments on or after December 18 will be allowed into Singapore. Manufacturers are required to inspect and test each batch of their raw materials and end products to ensure that they are melamine—free, and products must be issued health certificates by the Chinese authorities before they are exported to Singapore.
Suspension of China milk and milk products came into effect on September 19 and AVA has been working closely with the Chinese authorities to facilitate the resumption of imports while ensuring food safety of products.
It has inspected dairy farms, milk collection centres and food processing establishments, as well as assessed the overall control system in China. AVA will continue to monitor the products imported into Singapore to ensure that they are safe for consumption.
