The Korea Composite Stock Price Index <.KS11> was up 0.14 percent at 1,684.65 points as of 0230 GMT, poised to gain for a fourth consecutive session. "Positive sentiment is forming with the year-end just days away. Expectations for economic improvement and corporate earnings next year are growing," said Lee Jin-woo, a market analyst at Mirae Asset Securities. But rises were capped by selling by foreign and institutional investors, who offloaded a net 123.5 billion won and 106 billion won respectively. Gains were led by shares in Korea Electric Power Corp and other builders after a consortium including them won a major nuclear power deal from the United Arab Emirates. A consortium led by KEPCO and including Hyundai Engineering & Construction <000720.KS>, Samsung C&T Corp <000830.KS> and Doosan Heavy Industries <034020.KS>, won a landmark deal to build and operate four nuclear reactors in the UAE. [ID:nLDE5BQ05O] "The news is significant in that South Korean companies have won the verification of their capacity in nuclear power technology," said Cho Yoon-ho, an analyst at Daishin Securities. "Markets expect more nuclear power related orders to come next year. There's talk of such orders from Jordan and Turkey," said Park Hyung-jin, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities. Shares in KEPCO gained 7.02 percent after rising as much as daily limit of 15 percent, while Hyundai E&C was up 8.53 percent, after hitting as high as 76,900 won, the highest intraday level seen in more than 18 months. Samsung C&T rallied 7.12 percent and Doosan Heavy jumped 14.88 percent. Korea Power Engineering Co Inc <052690.KS> and KR Plant Service & Engineering <051600.KS>, both units of KEPCO that specialise in power plant businesses, also hit limit highs. Gains in banks following a recent run of losses also lent markets support. KB Financial Group <105560.KS> rose 1.51 percent and Woori Finance Holdings <053000.KS> climbed 1.32 percent. But key exporters fell, weighed by the won's <KRW=> gain against the dollar. Shares in LG Electronics <066570.KS>, South Korea's No.2 handset maker, declined 1.65 percent, and Hyundai Motor <005380.KS>, the country's top automaker, lost 2.48 percent.
