But that hasn't stopped the 23-year-old Tasmanian from relishing the chance to test just how far he can go with the elite peloton as part of Francaise des Jeux's mainly French squad. "I did the Vuelta (Tour of Spain) last year, that was my first big Tour but this is the Tour de France so I'm a little bit nervous, but quite excited as well," he told AFP Friday. "I'm only 23 and that's quite a young age to be riding the Tour, but I'm looking forward to it." Sulzberger comes from a cycling family in Tasmania where his older brother Bernard is also a professional, while even mum and dad take part in Sunday rides with the island's steadily growing cycling community. At the Tour, Sulzberger has the job of accompanying FDJ's team leaders Christophe Le Mevel and Sandy Casar for as long as possible, whether in the mountains or the flatter stages. It's a thankless task which offers little credit, and with the onus on climbing on this year's edition Sulzberger knows he faces a huge test of his abilities. "My job is just to stay with Christophe and Sandy for as long as possible. It's going to be a really open race so for Christophe to get among the top ten again is going to take something special, but I think he's going pretty well," he added. Sulzberger admits, however, the prospect of racing -- and not just riding -- up the long climbs that lead to the race's famous Cols, or mountain passes, is going to hurt. "I've raced up some of the big climbs on the Tour, like the Tourmalet (in the Pyrenees), but doing it in training with the rest of the guys will be nothing like racing up it!," he said. "But it's just another challenge, and I'm looking forward to it."
