Australian senator to visit S’pore as 28th LKY Exchange Fellow

SINGAPORE: Australia’s Senator for New South Wales, Mark Arbib, will be visiting Singapore on Saturday as the 28th Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow.
During his visit from January 3 to 10, Mr Arbib will call on Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo, Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean.
Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs, Indranee Rajah, and Senior Minister of State for Education and Information, Communications and the Arts, RAdm Lui Tuck Yew, will also host him to official meals.
Mr Arbib will participate in a roundtable at the S Rajaratnam International Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research and will also attend a PAP Meet—the—People Session.
He will also meet senior officials from Singapore’s labour movement, government ministries and the nation’s central bank.
Mr Eddie Teo, Chairman of the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship (LKYEF), will host a welcome dinner for Mr Arbib on Tuesday.
The LKYEF programme, established in 1991, invites outstanding individuals for high—level exchange visits to Singapore.
The Fellows are chosen on the basis of their proven track records or extraordinary potential to contribute to the development of their nations as well as promote international understanding and goodwill. — CNA/vm
