Dr. James Hansen, NASA's chief climatologist, is organizing a protest on March 2 at the coal-fired Capitol Power Plant in Southeast Washington, D.C. Hansen has called coal-fired power plants "factories of death" in the past. "On March 2, join thousands of people in a multi-generational act of civil disobedience at the Capitol Power Plant - a plant that powers Congress with dirty energy and symbolizes a past that cannot be our future. Let's use this as a rallying cry for a clean energy economy that will protect the health of our families, our climate, and our future," Hansen said on a video posted on the website capitolclimateaction.org. Hansen's critics, particularly Republicans in Congress, want his protest activities investigated as a possible Hatch Act violation. The Hatch Act prohibits some federal employees from participating in partisan political activity.
