LOS ANGELES |
Tue Sep 28, 2010 4:52pm EDT
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Actress Lindsay Lohan voluntarily checked herself into rehab on Tuesday for the fifth time in three years, celebrity news websites reported.
TMZ.com and celebrity photo news agency X17online.com said that Lohan, 24, checked into a rehabilitation center in southern California late Monday night and was expected to stay there until an October 22 court hearing.
Lohan's lawyer did not immediately return calls for comment.
The decision by the star of movies "Freaky Friday" and "Mean Girls" follows a chaotic summer of court appearances, rehab and jail time that has halted her bid to regain her once promising career.
Lohan did three stints in rehab in 2007 after admitting she was addicted to drink and drugs, and was released early from a fourth court-ordered stay in August.
Last week she was briefly taken back to jail after failing a court-ordered drug test, and she was ordered to wear a drug and alcohol monitoring device on her release.
Her problems stem from a 2007 conviction for drunk driving and cocaine possession, for which she has violated probation several times.
Lohan found fame as a child in the Disney movie "The Parent Trap" and became a sought-after teen celebrity after making films like "Herbie Fully Loaded". But she hit the Los Angeles and New York nightclub scenes hard, derailing her career as a serious actress.
