        LOS ANGELES |
        Tue Sep 28, 2010 1:09pm EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Quentin Tarantino's longtime film editor was found dead in the Hollywood Hills on Tuesday after going hiking with her dog during the city's hottest day on record.
Police said the body of Sally Menke, 56, was found at the bottom of a hillside near Griffith Park in the center of Los Angeles. Foul play was not suspected but the cause of death was unclear.
Menke worked as the film editor on every Tarantino movie from "Reservoir Dogs" in 1992 to "Inglourious Basterds" in 2009, which brought her an Oscar nomination.
She went hiking on Monday morning and friends alerted police when she failed to return. Her locked car was found in a parking lot and her dog was found alive and near her body, police said.
A Southern California heatwave sent temperatures in downtown Los Angeles soaring on Monday to a record high of 113 degrees Fahrenheit. It was not immediately clear whether heat was a factor in Menke's death.
