Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, the lone surviving suspected gunman in the 2008 Mumbai attacks, is under police custody at an undisclosed location in this undated video grab from footage shown on CNN IBN television channel February 3, 2009.

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Prosecutors asked an Indian court on Tuesday to sentence to death a Pakistani man found guilty over the 2008 Mumbai attacks after a trial India said sent a message to its rival neighbor Pakistan not to "export terrorism".
World
Mohammad Ajmal Kasab was the only gunman captured alive in the three-day rampage through India's financial capital in November 2008 that killed 166 people at key landmarks, including two luxury hotels, the main train station and a Jewish center.
"The manner of causing death showed total depravity. This is not an ordinary criminal. He would be a danger to society if he is allowed to live," government prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told the court before judge M.L. Tahilyani.
Kasab, 22, sat silently with his head bent. His lawyer K.P. Pawar argued for a sentence of life in jail, saying Kasab was too young and had been under extreme mental and emotional stress.
The Mumbai court will deliver a sentence on Thursday. It found Kasab guilty on Monday on 86 charges, including murder and waging war on India.
Indian law permits death for the "rarest of rare" crimes but such a sentence must be confirmed by a higher court. Kasab can appeal against the judgment in superior courts before moving a mercy petition to the president, a process that can take years.
The verdict against Kasab came days after the prime ministers of India and Pakistan met in Bhutan and asked officials to take steps to normalize relations between the nuclear-armed countries, signaling a thaw in ties that had been ruptured by the attack.
New Delhi broke off peace talks with Pakistan after the attack, saying Islamabad had first to act against militants operating from its soil, including the Lashkar-e-Taiba of which Kasab is accused of being a member.
"The judgment itself is a message to Pakistan that they should not export terrorism to India," Home Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram told reporters on Monday.
Kasab was filmed walking through Mumbai's main train station carrying an AK-47 rifle and a knapsack on his back. Nearly 60 people were gunned down in the crowded station.
He was one of 10 gunmen who carried out the attacks in Mumbai. All were believed to have received training in Pakistan before traveling to Mumbai by sea.

After watching the HBO Documentary, I’m not certain I agree with the sentence. The villain in this tragedy was his superior giving orders on the phone. It seems all of ten drones in this massacre were from dirt poor families that essentially “farmed out” these kids to Muslim extremists who trained them and used them for their sick end.

Muslim extremism rears its head again. Once again, the Islamic “Ring of Fire” is on display. Muslims cannot get along with neighbors of another religion. It’s time to stop all religions that promote violence.

I have to disagree with the previous comment, not only is the sentence just and the death penalty a reasonable request by the prosecution, but by showing ‘mercy’ to these terrorsists we are affirming their belief that we are weak and incapable of defending our countries from their threat. This man, along with his co terrorists, cold bloodedly took life, without a care or consideration for the persons they killed or their families. We should not be pitying these men for their poor background, but be doing something about their poverty stricken early life if we want to defeat the terrorist threat. NOT ALL Islamic people are terrorists, just a faction that would have you belive that they are. Let us not “tar all with the same brush”, but show ourselves to be strong and tough against those that would take the terrorist route.

Augman, while you have a point in that this terrorist’s family is dirt-poor and that likely has a lot to do with his joining LeT, the fact remains that there are millions of poor people throughout the world, even in Pakistan itself, who DON’T resort to this sort of barbarity. He intended to die carrying out his mission, it is appropriate to execute him for his part in it.

It is very true that we are affirming our Constitution into a very weak one. We cant blame anybody. Its we who should blame ourselves as we are not protesting against the actions taken by Indian Government. Did we resist or revolt against them or their decision? No. R V really bothered about it?
Its right that all Islamic arent terrorist. But we also should think on the 2nd part of coin that why all the terrorist are Only Islamic?
