Iraq, Iran to swap bodies from war
AP - Saturday, November 1
BAGHDAD - Iraq's government spokesman says Iraq and Iran have agreed to exchange bodies of soldiers killed during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war.
Spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh says the exchange will take place Nov. 15 at a border post that he did not reveal.
He said Friday that Iran will hand over 200 Iraqi bodies in exchange for 41 Iranian bodies.
An official funeral will be held by the Iraqi government for the recovered remains.
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers from both sides were killed or went missing during the 1980-1988 war.
The International Committee of the Red Cross announced Oct. 16 that the two countries have agreed on how to gather and share information about the missing and hand over any remains uncovered.
