Hempstead, NY, United States (AHN) - A Nassau County corrections officer was arrested early Wednesday for allegedly killing two people in a shooting rampage that is still under investigation.

Local reports have identified the suspect as Kim Wolfe, 43. She is believed to have shot a maternity nurse at the Nassau University Medical Center shortly after midnight.

According to NBC, the nurse was found lying on the ground outside the hospital with several gunshot wounds. She died later while receiving treatment.

Wolfe is also suspected to have opened fire on two men in a nearby residential area in Hempstead, killing one and wounding the other. The victims at this second crime scene are believed to be relatives of Wolfe.

The suspect was arrested without incident while she was driving a sports utility vehicle along an avenue where a news crew covering the story filmed her driving by. She was reportedly holding her 23-year-old niece as a hostage.
