The price of the “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” painted by the famous Spanish artist in 1932 included the last bid of $95 million made on Tuesday night and fees to the Christie’s auction house. The exact price is a staggering $106,482,500. The auction started with eight bidders at the saleroom and over the phone. Only two bidders remained after nine minutes, when the price reached the $88 million mark. The two bidders battled it out until the bid of $95 million was made at 7:32 p.m., according to Christie’s. The winning bid beat the $104,327,006 paid by an anonymous phone buyer for the “Walking Man 1,” a 1960 painting of Alberto Giacometti, during a Sotheby’s auction in February. It also surpassed the previous most expensive Picasso painting, the 1905 “Boy with Pipe,” which sold for $104,168,000 in May 2004. The “Nude, Green Leaves and Bust” was originally owned by Los Angeles philanthropist Frances Lasker Brody, who bought it in the 1950s.
