KARACHI, Dec 9 - Following is a list of events in Pakistan as well as news stories and press reports which may influence financial markets.

* State Bank of Pakistan to release weekly foreign exchange reserves data.
 
* The Federal Bureau of Statistics is due to release monthly inflation numbers on Thursday, or soon after.
 
* The FBS is also scheduled to release foreign trade numbers on Friday, or soon after.

MARKET SNAPSHOTS
 
* The rupee <PKR=> ended weaker at 85.72/74 against the dollar on Wednesday, compared with Tuesday's close of 85.67/70 amid an increase in import payments, especially for oil, dealers said.
 
* The Karachi Stock Exchange's benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> ended 1.74 percent, or 198.92 points, higher at 11,629.93, its highest close since July 2008.
 
Turnover rose to 195.65 million shares, compared to 118.3 million shares traded on Tuesday.
 
* Foreign investors bought shares worth a net $4.32 million on Wednesday.
 
* U.S. stocks edged higher on Wednesday as gains in financial and technology stocks offset declines caused by a recent surge in bond yields.
 
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 13.32 points, or 0.12 percent, to 11,372.48. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 4.53 points, or 0.37 percent, to 1,228.28. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> gained 10.67 points, or 0.41 percent, to 2,609.16. [.N]
 
* Oil rebounded towards $89 on Thursday as some optimism returned to financial markets in Asia on hopes that the extension of U.S. tax cuts would boost demand.
 
U.S. crude for December <CLc1> rose 62 cents to $88.90 a barrel at 0304 GMT, after touching a 26-month high of $90.76 on Tuesday and falling 41 cents on Wednesday. ICE Brent crude <LCOc1> added 41 cents to $91.18. [O/R]
 
* Spot gold firmed a notch on Thursday, after sliding more than one percent in the previous session, as a dollar rally paused, and resilient physical demand in Asia provided support.
 
Spot gold <XAU=> gained 0.4 percent to $1,386.75 an ounce by 0258 GMT, after falling to a one-week low of $1,371.45 on Wednesday. [GOL/]
