KARACHI, Feb 23 - Following is a list of events in Pakistan as well as news stories and press reports which may influence financial markets.

MARKET SNAPSHOTS
 
* The rupee fell to an all-time closing low on Monday following reported comment from the finance minister on a possible devaluation, dealers said, but the minister later said he had been misquoted.
 
The rupee <PKR=> ended at 85.06/11 to the dollar, compared with Saturday's close of 84.90/96. [PKR/]
 
* The Karachi Stock Exchange benchmark 100-share index <.KSE> rose 0.51 percent, or 50.45 points to 9,953.07 on turnover of 135.84 million shares. [.KA]
 
* The net inflow of foreign portfolio investment in the stock market was was $2.36 million on Monday.

* U.S. stocks finished flat on Monday as investors held back before congressional testimony by Fed Chairman ben Bernanke, while scattered buying lifted shares of health insurers and banks.
 
The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> dropped 18.97 points, or 0.18 percent, to 10,383.38. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> shed 1.16 points, or 0.10 percent, to 1,108.17. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> fell 1.84 points, or 0.08 percent, to 2,242.03. [.N]
 
* U.S. crude futures dropped to around $80 a barrel on Tuesday after rising for five days with some traders selling to book profits on the new front-month contract.
 
NYMEX crude for April Delivery <CLc1> was down 26 cents to $80.05 a barrel by 0017 GMT. Some analysts said with the contract for April crude starting above $80, fulfilling the price target of some traders, there was probably early selling to book profits. [O/R]
 
* Gold held steady on Tuesday but hovered below a 1-month high hit the previous day as uncertainty about the timing and pace of monetary tightening in the United States drove investors away.
 
Spot gold <XAU=> was at $1,113.95 an ounce by 0048 GMT, up $0.35 ounce. It rallied to its strongest in a month at $1,130.65 on Monday before falling as the dollar bounced against the euro. [GOL/]
