Windsor Genova - AHN News News Writer
Sydney, Australia (AHN) - A 16-year-old girl from Australia became the world’s youngest person to sail around the world solo and unassisted when she returned in Sydney Harbor on Saturday to complete her journey started on Oct. 18 last year.

Tens of thousands of supporters welcomed back Jessica Watson along the shores of Sydney Harbor, where her 30-foot yacht Ella’s Pink Lady crossed the finish line.

Watson’s 23,000-mile, seven-month journey saw her pass through the South Pacific, Cape Horn at the tip of South America, Atlantic Ocean, South Africa and the Indian Ocean.

She beat the previous world record set by compatriot Mike Perham, who completed a circumnavigation at age 17 last year.
