Mrs. Bush: Iraq invasion was not a distraction
AP - 1 hour 25 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - First lady Laura Bush is rebuffing critics of the Bush administration who contend that the U.S. turned its military might and resources to the war in Iraq before finishing the job in Afghanistan.
In an interview aired Sunday on Fox News Sunday, Mrs. Bush says she doesn't think it's true that the U.S. took its eye off the ball in Afghanistan.
She says critics might be saying that the U.S. military is not heavily enough invested in Afghanistan, but that the United States has stayed very involved in other ways.
Mrs. Bush says that besides U.S. aid to Afghanistan, she's met scores upon scores of Americans who are helping Afghans, including U.S. women helping Afghan women obtain micro-loans so they can build small businesses and support themselves.
