SINGAPORE : The pioneer batch of 88 students from the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science received their diplomas on Monday.
Education Minister Ng Eng Hen gave out the top awards to students from the graduating class.
The top student, Zhao Ye, graduated with a Cumulative Average Point of 4.86 (out of maximum of 5 points) with Honours in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. She is also one of five recipients of the A*STAR Young Researcher Award.
The brainchild of then Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean, NUS High School is an independent high school which specialises in Math and Science education.
Some of the graduates have already been offered places at local and foreign universities, such as Imperial College, University College London, University of Glasgow, University of St Andrew’s and University of Michigan.
Since NUS High School opened its doors three years ago, its students have left a lasting impression at various local and international competitions.
Of the 15 Singapore prize winners in the Olympiads across various subject areas this year, seven were from NUS High School .
The NUS High School Diploma is recognised by top foreign universities such as Oxford and Cambridge, as well as Ivy League universities in the United States.
Locally, the diploma is recognised by the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University. — CNA/ms
