Crystal to battle Lee for "American Idol" title
LOS ANGELES - Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze will battle each other for the "American Idol" title next week after guitarist Casey James was voted off by viewers on Wednesday. Bowersox, a 24-year-old dreadlocked mom, had for months seemed certain to win the top-rated TV singing show. But DeWyze, 23, who worked as a paintshop clerk in Chicago before auditioning for the show last year, has gained steadily in confidence.
Graphic novelist alleges "Heroes" ripoff
LOS ANGELES claims the network "knowingly, willfully, recklessly and maliciously infringed" on his copyright by introducing a traveling carnival "virtually identical" to the ones depicted in his successful three-installment digital book series.
Curtains for Shrek marks challenge for DreamWorks
LOS ANGELES - Shrek has done a lot for DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc and as the lovable ogre undergoes a mid-life crisis in his latest movie outing, the studio is looking for ways to replicate his success. "Shrek Forever After," which opens on Friday, is billed as the fourth and final film in the animated Shrek franchise.
Lohan likely to miss LA court date
LOS ANGELES - Lindsay Lohan had her passport stolen in France and is unlikely to make it back to Los Angeles in time for a crucial probation hearing on Thursday that could result in jail time, her mother said. Dina Lohan told celebrity website RadarOnline.com in an interview on Wednesday that the actress is trying desperately to resolve the problem in France.
Justin Bieber rules pop chart as sales slump
LOS ANGELES - Canadian teen idol Justin Bieber returned to the top of the U.S. pop chart Wednesday with the second-lowest sales tally for a No. 1 album since tracking firm Nielsen SoundScan started keeping data in May 1991. Bieber's "My World 2.0" sold 60,300 copies during the week ended May 16, jumping four places to mark a fourth non-consecutive week at the top. The album originally debuted at No. 1 on March 31. Sales to date stand at 1.04 million.
Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz back for "Twilight"
LOS ANGELES - The independent studio behind "Twilight" on Wednesday said it reached a deal with Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz to reprise their supporting roles as vampires in the fourth film in the franchise. Media reports in recent days had indicated Greene and Lutz were in a salary dispute with Summit Entertainment over their roles in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn," which is due out in November 2011.
Michaels still getting headaches after brain hemorrhage
LOS ANGELES - Rock singer Bret Michaels said on Wednesday he was still suffering from headaches and having trouble moving after surviving a near fatal brain hemorrhage last month. The frontman of glam rock band Poison, who last week announced a May 28 comeback performance, told Oprah Winfrey in a TV interview that he has increased his therapy to twice a day and was just happy to be alive.
Heist project catches "Field of Dreams" writer
LOS ANGELES - Phil Alden Robinson, who wrote and directed "Field of Dreams," has been given the keys to an untitled heist project based on a true story recounted in Wired magazine. Robinson will write the script for the Paramount project, which is based on Joshua Davis' Wired article "The Untold Story of the World's Biggest Diamond Heist."
Stephen Baldwin making timely oil documentary
CANNES - It was arguably only a matter of time until someone got the urge to make a film about the risks of offshore drilling. But it took the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico to bring money, passion -- and the right celebrity -- together. This last is actor Stephen Baldwin, who is in Cannes to talk up a documentary he has already begun shooting called "The Will to Drill."
Tibetan choreography master seeks the unknown in others
BEIJING - Tibetan choreographer Sang Jijia took seven years to finish an idea that came to him while painting one day -- the idea that other people's dark side, the part that isn't known, that makes them whole. Three days before "Standing Before Darkness" premiered this month in Beijing, he was finally satisfied with his exploration of that spiritual shading through dance.
