Sun, Apr 11 2010
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Iran complained to the United Nations on Tuesday over what it called a U.S. threat to attack it with atomic weapons, accusing Washington of nuclear blackmail in violation of the U.N. charter.
World
President Barack Obama made clear last week that Iran and North Korea, both involved in nuclear disputes with the West, were excluded from new limits on the use of U.S. atomic weapons.
A letter from Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Khazaee to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the Security Council and General Assembly presidents called on the United Nations to "strongly oppose the threat of use of nuclear weapons and to reject it."
Statements by Obama and other U.S. officials were "tantamount to nuclear blackmail against a non-nuclear-weapon state" and breached U.S. obligations under the U.N. charter to refrain from the threat or use of force, Khazaee said.
"Such remarks by the U.S. officials display once again the reliance of the U.S. government on (a) militarized approach to various issues, to which the threats of use of nuclear weapons are not a solution at all," he added.
They also posed "a real threat to international peace and security and undermine the credibility" of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the envoy said.
Obama is urging other global powers to agree to a fourth round of U.N. sanctions against Iran over its refusal to halt nuclear work that the West suspects is aimed at making bombs, a charge Iran denies.
He pressed the case for sanctions at a 47-nation nuclear summit in Washington on Tuesday, at which he won pledges from world leaders to take joint action to prevent terrorist groups from getting nuclear weapons.
But Khazaee said that Iran, as a victim of weapons of mass destruction -- a reference to Iraq's use of poison gas against it in a 1980-88 war -- was firmly committed to a world free from such weapons.
The United States, the only country to have used nuclear weapons -- against Japan in World War Two -- "continues to illegitimately designate a non-nuclear weapon state as target of its nuclear weapons and contemplates military plans accordingly," he said.
U.N. members "should not condone or tolerate such nuclear blackmail in (the) 21st century," the Iranian envoy said.

Let them start trying to make nuclear weapons. Then we bomb them with ours. Iran + Nuclear Weapons = World + Radioactive lake called Iran. We don’t even need nukes for Iran. We could just give them swine flu. They won’t be able to do anything for a few months.

Instead of worrying about Iran, which has signed the NPT, is subject to inspections, and has never attacked a neighboring nation, the U.S. should focus on the terrorist nation of Israel which has nuclear weapons, refuses to sign the NPT, has already illegally sold nuclear technology to rogue states, has a long history of attacking its neighbors, and is well recognized for committing some of the worst attrocities and human rights vioations in the world.

I can’t believe they’re actually pissing and moaning about how they think the US is a threat to them. The point of it is to get rid of the uranium. And, yes, we are the only nation in history to use a WMD, and no it wasn’t humane in any way shape or form, and it’s exactly what should never happen again. But this really just goes to show that the two most dangerous nations of the world are gearing up for something.
“tantamount to nuclear blackmail against a non-nuclear-weapon state”
-It’s not nuclear blackmail, it’s a matter of trying to get rid of the monstrous creations that we’ve made as humans so that we don’t destroy the world we live on and everyone in it.
The question is…. everyone is supposed to “get rid” of the Uranium, but where is it all going to go?? To who will the protection of the Uranium go to? The US? That will definitely piss off Americans and the UN alike.

The fact is that the Iranian government has signed the nuclear-npt and the United States is in no position to threaten their rights especially given that the United States has nuclear weapons themselves.
There is definitely a necessity for all countries to build up defenses but not nuclear, chemical, or any weapons of mass destruction (although American conventional weapons such as a AC130 gunship should basically be considered a WMD).
Israel has not signed the Nuclear-NPT, has been given nuclear technology as well as a large amount of nuclear weapons from France through the United States and is not even being questioned for their motives? They need to be pressured to sign the nuclear-npt and if not definitely cut off my American tax dollars that pay for it. I am disgusted by the amount of money that we as American citizens are paying for weapons development, and funding to Israel when our own schools, homeless, medicare, and much more is going neglected.
These times call for COMPLETE NUCLEAR DISARMAMENT WORLDWIDE!
Anyone agree?
