ADVERTISEMENT That meant England, 1-0 up in the five-match series after their 115-run second Test victory at Lord's, remained on 116 for two in reply to Australia's first innings 263 - a deficit of 147. Rain washed out the first two session of Thursday's opening day and more bad weather took 19 overs out of the game on Friday. And the forecast for the remaining three days of this game is not encouraging either. Flower, speaking after Saturday's play had been abandoned without a ball bowled, admitted the situation looked bleak. "It's a shame for everyone, shame for all the spectators that have turned up as well but as far as the game is concerned it's a pity and, looking at that outfield, I don't how much play we are going to get tomorrow (Sunday) either. "I think Steve Rouse (the groundsman) has said we might get 70 overs in and that would be a godsend if we do." Nevertheless, the former Zimbabwe batsman was adamant both teams still had a chance to win this match. "Absolutely, you can see how quickly things can happen in a game, so a result is definitely possible. "Whether or not that happens, we'll have to see how well both sides play. But if we can get 70 overs in, we still have to bat well to get a lead, we are still 140-odd behind. It's up to us to bat well." England are looking to regain the Ashes, after being thrashed 5-0 in Australia in 2006/07. England captain Andrew Strauss, who made a century at Lord's, is 64 not out and Ian Bell was unbeaten on 26. "He's been very impressive," Flower said of Strauss. "Obviously with the bat, he's led from the front in that regard. He's been rock-solid up there for other guys to bat around. "As a captain and a bloke, in there in the changing room and out on the field, he's making good decisions and he's a strong bloke and a good leader." Swing bowlers James Anderson and Graham Onions shared nine wickets between them as Australia 126 for one at stumps on Thursday, collapsed in dramatic style on Friday. Their displays meant Flower's team did not require another huge physical effort from injury-prone all-rounder Andrew Flintoff after the fast bowler sealed England's first Ashes win at Lord's in 75 years with a five-wicket haul. Flintoff has announced this will be his final series in the five-day format and doubts still remain about whether he will see it through to the finish, especially as there is just a three-day break between the end of this match and the start of the fourth Test at Headingley on Friday. "I'm thankful that he's playing. Given his injury record, you are never sure how long you are going to have him for," Flower said of the star of England's 2005 Ashes series win. Asked if Flintoff could play back-to-back Tests, a cautious Flower replied: "I think he can. Whether he does or not I don't know. "We don't know what's going to happen over the next two days but he's a strong bloke so it's possible. We don't look any further forward than this game. We've got to try to win it and then make decisions thereafter."
