Zsa Zsa Gabor home from hospital
LOS ANGELES - Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was released from a hospital on Saturday and was undergoing antibiotic treatment at home for leg and blood infections, her husband said. Gabor, 93, was hospitalized on Friday for a suspected blood clot that turned out to be an infection. She has been in and out of the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles since she fell and broke her hip in July, and was so sick in August that she asked to have the last rites read.
DiCaprio attacker pleads no contest to assault
LOS ANGELES - A woman charged with smashing a wine glass into actor Leonardo DiCaprio's face at a Hollywood Hills party in 2005 pleaded no contest on Friday to assault with a deadly weapon. Aretha Wilson, 40, is expected to be sentenced this month to two years in a California prison under a plea deal with the Los Angeles District Attorney. She will likely receive credit for the 330 days she has already served in jail.
Justin Bieber's new song, "Pray", debuts online
NEW YORK - "Pray," the only new track on Justin Bieber's forthcoming acoustic effort "My Worlds Acoustic," has hit the web two weeks before the disc's November 26 release. Earlier this week, the pop star announced the mid-tempo single and unveiled the artwork of "Acoustic," which will include stripped-down takes on his hits "Baby," "One Time" and "U Smile."
Sarah Palin gets down and dirty in new TV show
LOS ANGELES - Forget the "Real Housewives" and trying to keep up with the Kardashians. "Sarah Palin's Alaska", which makes its TV debut on Sunday, couldn't be further from the pampered pooches and designer divas seen in much of the popular reality TV fare about the lives of American women.
Chili Peppers dig up roots in "Oral/Visual History"
NEW YORK - Most artists cringe at the idea of showing compromising photos taken in public, but rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers relish the idea. In fact, they've compiled many of those moments in their first book, "The Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History."
Big sales projected for Michael Jackson album
NEW YORK - The initial U.S. shipment of Michael Jackson's "Michael," due December 14 on Epic Records, is 900,000, according to retail sources. Record label Sony is projecting first-week CD sales of 340,000 and digital album sales of 60,000.
"Deathly Hallows" conjures up holiday movie season
LOS ANGELES - Big-budget franchises, classic tales told Hollywood style and major star couplings mark the upcoming holiday movie season that sees "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" once again conjuring film magic. With its global premiere on Thursday night in London and a worldwide debut set for November 19, "Hallows," the first of a two-part finale covering the final adventure of the British boy wizard, begins a six-week holiday season that is second only to the summer in terms of ticket sales and major event movies.
Female directors absent on Forbes Hollywood list
LOS ANGELES - Forbes' annual Hollywood's 10 Highest-Earning Women list has one thing missing: female directors. Directors James Cameron, George Lucas and Michael Bay dominated the men's list, making $210 million with "Avatar," $95 with "Star Wars" and $120 Million with "Transformers."
Orlando Bloom, Beth Ditto win German Bambi awards
BERLIN - National and international celebrities including actor Orlando Bloom, soccer player Mesut Ozil and singer Beth Ditto took home Germany's most coveted media prizes, known as the "Bambi Awards." A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2009, "Lord of the Rings" star Bloom won the Bambi Charity Award on Thursday night for his humanitarian work with children in some of the world's poorest regions.
The Pee-wee Herman Show -- Theater Review
NEW YORK - The shrunken suit, tiny bow tie and white loafers have turned up everywhere thanks to Thom Browne and his imitators, but the impish man-child created more than 30 years ago by Paul Reubens remains one of a kind. When Pee-wee Herman steps onto the stage of Broadway's newly rechristened Stephen Sondheim Theater and barks, "Good morning, boys and girls" the roar of fans transported back to their childhood or college stoner days is deafening. It gets even louder when the curtain goes up on David Korins' deliriously tricked-out update of original designer Gary Panter's iconic Playhouse set.
