NEW YORK (Billboard) - "American Idol" winner Kris Allen will release his debut album on November 17, the singer announced Thursday night on his official Twitter page.
A rep for 19 Entertainment has confirmed the news in a statement to Billboard.com.
Allen broke the news with a straightforward tweet: "Hey guys! The album is set to release November 17." Amazon.com made Allen's "New Release 2009" available for pre-order last week and listed the same release date, setting off speculation among "Idol" fans.
Allen has been recording his debut album with The Fray's Joe King, songwriter Claude Kelly (Akon, Leona Lewis), Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse) and David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry). Allen also hit the studio in Nashville with singer-songwriter Matt Kearney, and last week he told EW.com of writing sessions with Toby Gad (Beyonce, Fergie) and Lindy Robbins (Backstreet Boys, Jordin Sparks).
The release date for runner-up Adam Lambert's album on 19/RCA is still unknown, but first- and second-place Idols typically release their post-show debuts within weeks of each other. Season 7 winner David Cook released his self-titled debut on November 18 last year, a week after runner-up David Archuleta's album. Lambert's project is also available for pre-order on Amazon but has no date listed.
Since the eighth season of "Idol," both Allen and Lambert have been recording their albums while performing on the American Idols Live tour, which wraps September 15 in Manchester, N.H.
