Credit: Reuters/Gonzalo Fuentes PARIS (Reuters) - Several thousand people demonstrated in Paris on Saturday to show solidarity with the Palestinians and denounce an Israeli raid on a Turkish aid boat bound for Gaza, with some Jews participating alongside Muslims. World Protesters gathered in the Bastille area, in a rally which included Palestinian flags and one banner saying "French Jewish Union For Peace" with around 100 French Jews following it. It was not clear just how many were there in total. "I think the blockade of Gaza is counter-productive for Israel," Michel Bontemps, a French Jew, told Reuters Television. "Showing solidarity with the Palestinians in no way means you are a terrorist," added Youssef Ben Derbal, a French national who was on the Turkish aid ship seized by Israeli forces earlier this week. On Saturday, Israel's navy boarded another aid ship to enforce its blockade of Gaza five days after its troops killed nine people on the Turkish aid boat, despite America saying the policy was "unsustainable." In Dublin, hundreds of people marched through the city center to protest against the seizure of the Rachel Corrie by Israel which carried Irish and other activists. The demonstrators headed for the foreign ministry, which has not commented on the boarding of the ship. "(I came) to voice my absolute disgust at what the Israeli government has been at, kidnapping our citizens," said John Buckley, a college lecturer who took part in the protest. "The Israelis have no right to intercept ships in the middle of the sea and they have no right to implement the blockade in the first place, it's completely illegal," he said. In London, thousands of protesters wearing t-shirts with slogans like "Free Gaza" converged outside the prime minister's official residence at Downing Street, before staging a noisy march to the Israeli embassy. I am not sure where your rage / rant originates from. But if you were to ‘read’ history , it was Islam which brought Europe out of the dark ages, (the list goes on). Check your facts before speaking about something – which you do not have a clue about. theusmuslim Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 12:53pm EDT Absolutely amazing – if you help the helpless, you are labelled as a terrorist … what has this world come to. I applaud the muslims, jewish and other faiths showing solidarity against modern day terrorism [ i.e. the hijacking of aide ships in international waters ]. We already know that Hezollah was labelled a terrorist organization because they hijacked several planes / boats and killed Israeli citizens. Why is the US not worried that one of its citizens was killed in these hijackings. Is a muslim US citizen not worth the same ? theusmuslim Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 1:02pm EDT Muslims coming to the West are not more or less destructive than westerners were to the Islamic cultures back in history, when they were the center of culture and innovation and WE the westerners were the ignorant pigs that didn’t even wash ourselves and lived with disease and poverty! Most of the so called “innovations” from our GREAT westerner cultures, are in any case based on Arab and Chinese inventions! We as always, are nothing else but usurpers of other people’s ideas! Furthermore, just how much lower (morally and culturally) can the west fall? Palicha Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 1:13pm EDT What the Israelis are doing is not illegal, just as it was not illegal for the US to blockade Cuba back in the 60’s and search ships bound for there to make sure they were not carrying armaments. The world wasn’t in an uproar then but if Jews do it, it’s somehow different. I guess it would be so convenient for a lot of you if the Jews just laid down and died. NEVER AGAIN! sjw18930 Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 1:14pm EDT I think Israel was totally justified in intercepting the boat..however, I don’t think it was good for them politically…as far as any religion being for peace…they all pretty much have a crappy record for it at different times. I think it’s really hypocritical for muslims to march at the bastille area given what the bastille represents….granted there are some great individual muslims…but as soon as muslims gain power, they outlaw any other religion and start subjugating women…unless they are rich women. Europe’s future demographics scare the crap out of me. robotman2009 Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 1:30pm EDT North Korea destroyed a South Korean ship and killed many more people a few days back with a torpedo. Where is all the stories and world outrage about that? Why is the Palestinian propoganda machine continually forcing our noses in this? USAalltheway Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 1:48pm EDT I think what is occurring in the middle east is biblical in proportions. There has been drastic drastic changes in our world since the year 2000 and since 911. You see a country Israel surrounded by its enemies and yet standing alone basically. Yet not alone God will always be with you. Iran is an evil blight that will have to be dealt with one way or another. The longer people wait though as is the case with Korea the worse it will get. America is standing on the sidelines due to wishy washy horrible leadership. Lanche Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 2:13pm EDT When one reads ‘Muslim’ instead of Palestinian, and ‘pro-Muslims’ instead against the blockade that turned Gaza into a “concentration camp” according to the EU spokesman following Israel’s attack in 2008, one wonders: - What if instead of referring to Israel, one referred to ‘Jews’? - What if say, Syria boarded, in international waters, a ship loaded with US weapons heading to Israel? Certainly Jews of the world are not responsible for the conduct of the Israeli government and blaming them, lock, stock and barrel, would only come from a contemptible anti-Jewish bigot. As to Syria boarding a civilian ship, killing 9 passengers and injuring 50 – well that would be an act of piracy in the High Sea, again to be condemned by all civilized nations to protect the freedom of navigation for everybody. It is difficult not to use the same responses if some attack all Muslims and praises an raid that led to the killing of unarmed innocents. Spin is not difficult to see through, particularly if it was combined with bigotry and arrogant self-righteousness! RBurton Report As Abusive     Jun 05, 2010 2:21pm EDT North Korea and South Korea are still at war and the people on the submarine were not civilians delivering humanitarian aid. I don’t see how you can compare the two events. jfd3220 Report As Abusive       See All Comments (14)       Add a Comment *We welcome comments that advance the story directly or with relevant tangential information.
