Carrey eyed for lead in "Beaver"
Reuters - Friday, May 1

NEW YORK - Jim Carrey has emerged as a leading candidate to star in "The Beaver," an offbeat comedy-drama that centers on the relationship between a man and a beaver puppet he wears on his arm.
Kyle Killen's script has generated enormous interest in film development circles, drawing comparisons to "Being John Malkovich" and "Lars and the Real Girl."
Those familiar with the situation say that Carrey likes the script and producers like him for the role, though casting would be dependent on the selection of a director.
Previously, Steve Carell had been loosely attached to play the lead when Jay Roach was talking about directing the picture.
Jodie Foster is among the directors being considered for the Anonymous Content production. The actress has directed several films, including the 1991 mother-son drama "Little Man Tate" and the 1995 family tale "Home for the Holidays."
In recent years Carrey has engaged in a pattern of alternating between his trademark big-budget comedies and more offbeat fare, like "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and the upcoming trail-of-deception drama "I Love You Phillip Morris." He's next up in Disney's version of "A Christmas Carol" and has signed on to play Curly in the Farrelly brothers' "The Three Stooges."
