NKorea's Kim inspects steel plant: state media
AFP - Thursday, December 25
SEOUL (AFP) - - North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il has visited a steel plant, state media said Thursday in its latest account of activities by the reportedly ailing leader.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) released photos of Kim, wearing a thick winter coat and his customary sunglasses, but did not say when he made his trip to the steeelworks in the southwestern city of Nampo.
Kim gave his trademark "field guidance" to the Chollima Steel Complex, the agency said.
South Korean and US officials have said the 66-year-old leader suffered a stroke in mid-August. Seoul officials said he made a good recovery and is still in control of his nuclear-armed nation.
The communist state's official media carried no reports between August 14 and October 4 of Kim's public appearances. But there have been a spate of such accounts in recent weeks, in an apparent attempt to show he is active and in charge.
Kim's health is the subject of intense interest since he has not publicly nominated a successor and has a history of diabetes and heart disease.
