Online Bush shoe-throwing game copied by Bosnians
AFP - 2 hours 26 minutes ago
SARAJEVO (AFP) - - A Bosnian website has invited surfers to fling virtual shoes at the country's top Serb leader, mirroring an online game inspired by an Iraqi journalist's shoe attack on George W. Bush.
"If you cannot do anything to politicians in real life, you can in the virtual world," the BH Raja website said of its game targeting Bosnian Serb Prime Minister Milorad Dodik.
Much like its Bush counterpart, the game gives surfers 30 seconds to aim shoes at an image of Dodik ducking behind a rostrum with a Bosnian flag in the background.
Dodik enjoys huge support among Serbs, but is resented by most Bosnian Croats and Muslims due to his nationalist rhetoric and strong opposition to strengthening the country's central institutions.
Since its 1992-1995 war, Bosnia has been split into two autonomous entities -- the Serbs' Republika Srpska and the Muslim-Croat Federation -- each with its own government, police and judiciary.
Iraqi journalist Durgham Zaidi threw both his shoes at Bush during a Baghdad press conference in mid-December in protest at the outgoing US leader's Iraqi policy.
The incident inspired a British student, Alex Tew, to create the "Sock and Awe" (www.sockandawe.com) shoe-throwing site on which anyone can take a swipe at the US leader on the Internet.
