NCSS to increase the number of social workers
Channel NewsAsia - 1 hour 16 minutes ago
SINGAPORE: The National Council of Social Service (NCSS) is expecting more Singaporeans to seek social assistance during the economic downturn. So it’s increasing the number of social workers, psychology specialists, special schools therapists and support officers needed.
Altogether, there are some 140 vacancies and those who can speak languages other than English will be in high demand.
The council said those seeking help are usually more comfortable sharing problems in their mother tongue.
A job fair will be held on 8 March 2009.
Ang Bee Lian, chief executive officer, NCSS, said: "We do need more social workers and we do need more ethnic speaking social workers so that they can be closer to the clients and able to meet their needs better." — CNA/vm
