Some major attacks in India since 1993, most blamed on Islamic militants:
_ Nov. 26, 2008: Series of shooting and grenade attacks, including two on luxury hotels, kill at least 195 people and wound at least 295 in Mumbai, India's main commercial city.
_ Sept. 13, 2008: At least five explosions in crowded shopping areas kill 21 and wound 100 in New Delhi, the national capital.
_ July 26, 2008: Sixteen small bombs explode in Ahmedabad, killing 45.
_ May 13, 2008: Seven bombs hit crowded markets and streets outside Hindu temples in Jaipur, killing 80.
_ Nov. 24, 2007: Nearly simultaneous explosions rip through courthouse complexes in Lucknow, Varanasi and Faizabad, killing 16.
_ Aug. 25, 2007: 43 people killed by three explosions at park and street-side food stall in Hyderabad.
_ Feb. 19, 2007: Train heading from India to Pakistan torn apart by two bombs, sparking fire that kills 68.
_ July 11, 2006: Seven blasts rip through rail stations and commuter trains in Mumbai, killing 187.
_ Oct. 29, 2005: 62 killed by three blasts at markets in New Delhi ahead of Hindu holiday of Diwali.
_ Aug. 25, 2003: Two taxis packed with explosives blow up outside a Mumbai tourist attraction and a busy market, killing 52 and wounding more than 100.
_ December 2001: Islamic militants attack India's Parliament in New Delhi, killing 14 people, including several gunmen. India blamed Pakistan, which denied involvement.
_ February 1998: Bomb blasts kill 58 people in southern town of Coimbatore. S.A. Basha, founder of a banned radical Muslim group, Al-Umma, is sentenced to life in prison for his role in the attacks.
_ March 1993: 257 people killed and more than 1,100 wounded when Muslim underworld figures tied to Pakistani militants allegedly carry out a series of bombings on Mumbai's stock exchange and on trains, hotels and gas stations in the city.
