Sydney Opera House to darken in mourning
AP - 1 hour 20 minutes ago
SYDNEY, Australia - The distinctive white sails of the Sydney Opera House will go dark to mourn the death of architect Joern Utzon.
The Sydney Opera House Trust said floodlights at the landmark building on Sydney Harbor would go out for one hour on Sunday night.
Trust chairman Kim Williams said Utzon was "an architectural and creative genius who gave Australia and the world a great gift" that had become "core to our national cultural identity."
Utzon, who has often been compared to architecture greats such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Alvar Aalto of Finland, died from a heart attack in his sleep early Saturday in Denmark.
