S.Korean top firms more upbeat for July - survey

SEOUL, June 27 - Confidence among big South Korean companies for the coming month rose for a second consecutive month since hitting a 10-month low, a top business lobby group said on Sunday, underpinning sustained growth in the economy.
The Federation of Korean Industries said the improved confidence was attributed to a relatively cheap won <KRW=> against the dollar, which bodes well for exports, and hopes for growing private consumption on the back of a rise in employment.
The federation, in a statement, said its business survey index rose to a seasonally adjusted 108.6 for July from a revised 104.2 for June and 103.4 for May, when the index hit its lowest point in 10 months.
The index stayed above 100 for the 13th consecutive month. A reading above 100 means the number of companies expecting their overall business performance to improve in the coming month outnumbered those predicting a decline.
On Thursday, the government sharply lifted its economic growth views and said the economic policy would gradually return to pre-crisis settings in a pre-emptive move to contain inflation pressures. [ID:nTOE65N03N] (Reporting by Suh Kyung-min, editing by Yoo Choonsik and Ron Popeski)
